Are e-mails and text messages destroying the language?

A language is a tool of communication in our daily life. Communication may be verbal as well as written but it has been evolving since man came on the earth. Language cannot be rigid or stagnant. If it is so language will die soon.

In the modern era with the advent of information technology, the sources, as well as the frequency of communication, have increased dramatically. As per a recent survey, the population of cell phones and computers has become more than humans. Now a big part of communication either formal or informal is being carried out by machines.

An E-mail has been used for official or formal correspondence mostly whereas text messages are being used for informal communication. Both ways are blamed for destroying the very language but in my opinion, it is NOT like that. I have certain reasons to justify my viewpoint.

First of all, as is stated above that all languages are evolving over time. The evolution of a language depends upon several factors. New inventions, especially those related to communication are also one of the factors. You cannot expect a language to be the same as the world around us is changing. So there is no harm to introduce new terms and phrases in the language.

Secondly, a language has two main forms, one is a functional language and the second is a literary language. The functional language has short forms and contractions used in daily texting or official correspondence. Essay writing or story writing is also being taught to children in schools. They can use both forms in their daily life easily.

It is therefore concluded that e-mails and text messages are not destroying any language but instead provide ease to those who want to learn that language.
